Job Description

• Provide nursing care for patients undergoing surgery.
• Assist surgeons in major or minor operations.
• Maintain standard or nursing care and preoperative planning and implementation of patient care.
• Keep principles of aseptic technique in performing surgical scrub setting instruments gowning, gloving as needed for procedure.
• Assist as a circulatory scrub nurse, or anaesthesia.
• Monitor and report all vital sign of patient preoperatively.
• Administer oxygen therapy and suctions of secretions if required and pain management of patient post operatively.
• Report any untoward reactions of patient to the surgeon or anaesthesiologist.
• Carry out all the doctors order and preoperatively.
• Give all psychological support to the patient and family.
• Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and patient care.
• Hold in confidence with respect to patient believe all personal matters.
• Always follow the principles of asepsis.

• To report any unethical conduct or practice to the proper authority.
• Adhere to the code of ethic at all times in relationship to all members of the theatre team.
• Provide services with respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of the patient unrestricted by considerations of social/ economic status, personal attributes or nature of health.
• Theatre nurse must assumes responsibilities and accountability for individual nursing judgment and actions.
• Participate in nursing activities that contribute to the on-going development of knowledge.
• Maintain accurate legible nursing records.
• Participate in mentoring supervision and assessment of junior or new staff.
• Contribute to the development of training programs within the department.
• Develop good interpersonal relationships with patients, relatives and other multidisciplinary team.
• Cooperate with other department to ensure the adequate supply of disposable item, medication DDA medication for operation theatre use.
• Ability to pay attention to detail and concentrate for lengthy period of time.
• Ability to adapt to the environment including the potential to stand for long hours as well as react in an emergency in the Operating Room.
• Works well in stressful situation and able to respond effectively to challenging situation.
• Perform on call duties whenever assigned on the roster ( after office hour, weekends, public holiday and day off).
• Carry out all other duties that may be assigned by the superior.

Job Requirements

Education/ Qualification
• Diploma in Nursing
• Post Basic in Peri-Operative
• Post Basic in Anaesthesia
Special skills
• Very good in communication interpersonal skills
• Very good documentation skill
• Good documentation skills
• Capable in identifying of the staff pt. needs
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to direct, manage and coordinate colleague work direction in theatre
